Sky is famous for producing original film and television content but its brands needed a new set of idents that would add gravitas to the productions when viewed at home or in cinema.

The existing idents used a glass lens technique to reveal the word Original, so we looked at ways to incorporate this established look and evolve it into a longer format. We found that by pushing the glass stylistic we could experiment with light refractions as we slowly reveal the word Original in the background, ultimately resolving to the complete logo.

I’ve included R&D since a lot of the early tests were really interesting, with a certain amount of trial and error needed to get the best glass effects, while keeping the familiar spectrum gradient running throughout. 

For the international market the Original brand isn’t used and so the word had to be replaced with the Sky logo itself to create a version for those markets. 

The idents are now used across the UK and Europe in cinema and TV.
